First
the entire piece is painted to look
as much like terra-cotta as possible.
Next, I put a darker terra-cotta on
the textured fur area and rubbed off
the high point to give depth to the
color. I also did something that the
clay artists call slip trailing. I
then did the body in this method because
I have done so much of this in pottery
over the years that I felt like many
in OKC would recognize my hand in
this project.
