Artist's Description

This buffalo is a sacred white buffalo painted with various botanical state symbols as follows: The State Wildflower, the Indian Blanket, are the three, bright red and yellow flowers. The State Floral Emblem, the Mistletoe, the oldest of Oklahoma's symbols, is shown hanging form the bison's horn. The State Tree, the branches of the Redbud

Tree are draping over the back of the buffalo like a blanket. The State Rock, the Rose Rock are shown on top and bottom of bison diagonal to each other.

Spirit of the Buffalo originated as a public art project combining art, commerce and civic pride in Oklahoma featuring Oklahoma artists. Initial proceeds benefited the Nature Conservancy's work in Oklahoma. The website project continues through private funds.
