Lighting the World One Star at a Time

Artist's Description

My realistically painted buffalo features a painting of an Indian chief on his pony crossing the Oklahoma prairie and river to his village. This is a symbolic reference to OCU's 100 year heritage. The painting is panoramic and extends around the buffalo to a picture of the present Oklahoma City skyline and the reminder that OCU is "OKLAHOMA CITY'S UNIVERSITY". Each of the very modern and symbolic students that are climbing the buffalo are carrying their own star. At the top, not only are a multitude of stars already planted by successful OCU students but the possibilities are endless as the climbers look up to see...the seven schools of OCU are huge stars that are neon lit and offering each student endless opportunity. OCU's team name, for years, uses to be "The Chief's"...their

team name is now "The Stars". OCU, Lighting The World-One Star At A Time... purpose is to stir the mind and symbolically inspire all to realize that OCU is built on a wonderful past history of success and now, as always, is proudly moving forward, "Lighting The World-One Star At A Time". They are the OCU STARS!

OCU, Lighting The World-One Star At A Time... is designed to inspire students to plant their own star at the top. That they only need to steadfastly climb to be successful.

Spirit of the Buffalo originated as a public art project combining art, commerce and civic pride in Oklahoma featuring Oklahoma artists. Initial proceeds benefited the Nature Conservancy's work in Oklahoma. The website project continues through private funds.
