This buffalo is painted in various works of Vincent Van Gogh. This buffalo represents Oklahoma City's awareness of expressionism through art, art awareness and art history in the 19th century and overall. It also serves as a great educational piece for children in making them aware of great artists like Van Gogh and his work. The buffalo itself highlights two of Van Gogh's most famous pieces, "Starry Night" and "Wheat Field with Crows." The

Spirit of the Buffalo originated as a public art project combining art, commerce and civic pride in Oklahoma featuring Oklahoma artists. Initial proceeds benefited the Nature Conservancy's work in Oklahoma. The website project continues through private funds.
